How patients can ‘Retain’ a life-long Smile.
Significant tooth movement is seen during the adolescent growth years and into the twenties, coinciding with the eruption of the third molars.
All too often this presents as late lower incisor crowding & relapse of previous orthodontic treatment.
Relapse can be prevented by the fitting of a fixed bonded retainer, a custom-made wire, to the palatal and lingual surfaces following orthodontic treatment.
Bonded retainers should ideally be used in conjunction with removable retainers such as Essix or Hawley retainers.
About Bonded retainers
– Require good oral hygiene and regular maintenance.
– Fitted on a long term basis
Bonded retainers can also benefit periodontal patients by splinting teeth together to distribute
forces of axial loading, where bone loss has occurred, and prevent further drifting.
